The end of our vacation

Posted in Hawaiian Honeymoon on September 30, 2006 by andyzilch

We’re sitting in the Salt Lake City airport waiting for our return flight to Cincinnati ūüė¶ We spent about four hours before the flight from Honolulu in the Delta crown room since we had no more sites to see and we had to be out of our hotel.

It has been a wonderful vacation and we can’t wait to get all our pictures off the camera.

… said Sarita earlier on the trip. No more was that true than today when we hiked to the top of Diamond head crater. On our last day on Oahu we decided to visit the national park and hike to the top.

Finishing up the day

Watching Conan now before bed. After the post at Chaminade I wandered around the campus more, took some photos, spoke with Fr. Bob Hacker and some brothers at the Marianist center, and went to the school bookstore for a postcard to send to the folks @ CCP St. Louis.

Sarita got a massage at the Hilton while I was out.

We had a nice sushi dinner at Sansei in the Marriott.

@ Chaminade Honolulu

This entry is from the Chaminade University¬†in Honolulu, HI. I checked in at the visitors office hoping to find some good sites to see.¬† They were impressed that I stopped by from St. Louis, but since the campus is under alot of construction there really isn’t much to see here right now.¬† I suppose I’ll walk around and get a few photos to send to the Alumni Magazine and then head back.¬† Just wanted to get an entry from the University.

Dinner last night, Pearl Harbor today

Last night we went to dinner at “Keoni by Keo” and it was probably the best value we’ve had so far. The food was good (they had two menus: American and Thai) and the prices were incredibly reasonable.

Today, then, we went to Pearl Harbor’s memorial over the USS Arizona. We took a guided tour to the memorial by Discover Hawaii Tours which we really enjoyed; not only was it cheaper transportation to the memorial, the guide have some very great background on WWII while on the way there and some bcuce Hawaiian history on the way back.

Arrived in Oahu

Flight to Oahu was uneventful just like we like them to be. We didn’t rent a car here so we took a shuttle from the airport to our hotel: the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. It is a very nice hotel and has a completely historic feel to it with tall wooden furniture in the room and period light fixtures. On the balcony outside the room there are two woode. Lounge chairs; the kind you are in paintings of peaceful beach scenes. Definitely pleased with this choice.

We’re headed out now to do some souvenier shopping in the market across the street.

Traveling to Oahu on little sleep

Posted in Hawaiian Honeymoon on September 27, 2006 by andyzilch

I slept poorly last night. Between about 12:30 and 1:15 I tossed around trying to fall asleep and everytime I was close my skin suddenly felt all creepy crawly and I woke back up. It made me think of that sleep-aid commercial about restless legs syndrome or something.

I ended up taking a short walk around the hotel and I saw quite a but of nightlife. Many geckos and slugs were out feeding on the moths and flies. I tried to take a picture of a gecko catching a fly but they were just too fast.
